Baa Baa Brighouse has decided that because, like most, we feel unable to influence social, political or economic change in any significant way, it can instead take care of its own very small corner of the world.
In 2019, we will be releasing a monthly limited edition hand dyed charity yarn where £3 of every skein sold will go to a chosen charity (this too will change on a month by month basis to enable us to help more deserving causes).
Our chosen charity for September will be Shelter, which helps millions of people throughout the UK who are struggling with poor housing conditions and homelessness. We’re all just one bad decision away from being homeless. It is striking to see the sheer number of homeless people on one single street in Leeds when there are empty properties available and yet the problem is not confined to typically built-up urban areas either. It beggars belief that a song such as Ralph McTell’s ‘Streets of London’, released in 1969, could still be so relevant 40 years later.
Our limited edition yarn, ‘Homelessness Is Not A Choice’, combines splashes of red (Shelter’s signature colour), blue and black against a varying pink and white background.
The yarn base used is a 100% British Bluefaced Leicester DK, giving 225m per 100g skein. It is available exclusively from Baa Baa Brighouse and can be purchased throughout the month of September.
