Mamma Mia – More Baa Baa Beats!

Hot on the heels of Pearl Jam inspired yarn comes ABBA! That's right, our third collection of Baa Baa Beats is available now and takes its inspiration from the music, costumes and original singles artwork of the 1970s Swedish disco foursome. Baa Baa Beats consists of unrepeatable, exclusive, one-of-a-kind, hand painted skeins that take their names from song titles. Debbie Bliss Sale

Following the announcement this week that the Debbie Bliss brand will only be available exclusively from a large online retailer in future, we have taken the decision to sell all of our remaining Debbie Bliss stock at half price. We are fortunate in that we have only ever stocked Debbie Bliss Falkland Aran yarn, a beautiful 100% British Falkland Merino wool that is ecologically and organically produced along with supporting patterns. However, because we will no longer be able to source any future stock, it makes sense for us to clear space on our shelves and offer our customers a fabulous deal on a wonderful yarn. All Debbie Bliss patterns and books will also be half price but be warned, once they're gone, they're gone! We have enjoyed stocking Debbie Bliss Falkland Aran and are disappointed by the exclusivity deal as it now stands but...

Fashion Revolution Week 2018

This week, fashion designers, manufacturers and retailers are celebrating a global campaign known as the Fashion Revolution. The campaign calls for greater transparency in all fashion supply chains and is a direct response to the collapse of the Rana Plaza factory complex in Bangladesh that killed 1,134 people and injured a further 2,500 in April 2013. Now in its fifth year, the campaign aims to combat the dangerous working conditions, long hours and little pay for garment workers which are a result of 'fast fashion'. That's why Baa Baa Brighouse would like to highlight all the positives to be had from knitting, crocheting, making your own clothes and carefully sourcing yarn that doesn't detrimentally impact on factory workers or the environment. Our own brand yarns, Baa Baa Brew DK, Baa Baa Brew Marble 4 Ply, Baa Baa Blends and Baa...

Monthly Themed Yarn Boxes 2018

In January 2017, we launched our Monthly Themed Yarn Boxes. Each month, inspiration for the box comes from popular culture including film, television, art, music, literature and historical events. So far, we have featured the hit TV show, 'Sherlock', the celebrated British author, Jane Austen, Disney's 'Beauty and the Beast', Cameron Mackintosh's critically acclaimed musical, 'Les Miserables', Shakespeare, The Brontes, Disney's 'Snow White', the TV drama, 'Poldark', the 'Outlander' series, crime writer, Agatha Christie, the music of Queen and 'Oliver Twist' by Charles Dickens. In 2018 we have taken inspiration from the film, 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi', 100 years since the Representation of the People Act allowed women to vote and the radio series, 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy',  by Douglas Adams. Boxes feature...

Studio Linen Has Arrived

Following on from our promise to introduce more vegan friendly yarns to our range, we have introduced Erika Knight's Studio Linen to our shelves this week. Linen is an ancient, sustainable, natural fibre that is spun from the flax plant. Fortunately, flax is naturally resistant to pests and therefore practically no pesticides or herbicides are necessary to grow these eco-friendly stem fibre plants. Also, flax plants produce large amounts of usable fibre per acre and do not require irrigation. Linen is durable, soft, lustrous and flexible and will naturally soften with wear and washing. Erika Knight's Studio Linen is 100% linen made up of 85% recycled rayon-linen fibre, sorted from selected wastage and regenerated using the eco-friendly hydrolysis method. It is then blended with  15% premium natural linen. These fibres are...

Helping The Environment

Here at Baa Baa Brighouse we have always been very conscious of the impact our business has on the environment and have sought to reduce waste wherever possible. Currently the boxes we use for our Monthly Themed Yarn Boxes, Birthstone Yarn Boxes, Special Occasion Yarn Boxes, Baa Baa Brighouse Gift Boxes and Baa Baa Brew Mini Skein Boxes are all made from a natural source and are fully recyclable. The same boxes are also used for our Yan Tan Tethera Yarn Club. Similarly, the tags which we use on our own range of yarns, boxes and wrapped parcels are made from recycled material and can be recycled upon receipt by the customer along with cardboard and paper. If you have visited us at shows, you will know that we have always used brown paper bags bearing our logo to pack your purchases in. Again, these are fully recyclable. The backing...

Gossypium Cotton Is Here

We have some exciting news for fans of non animal based fibres - Erika Knight's Gossypium Cotton is now available at Baa Baa Brighouse. Our range of Gossypium Cotton had its first outing this month at Spring Into Wool which was held at Leeds Grammar School and the interest we had from customers was overwhelming. Cotton is a soft, fluffy staple fibre that grows in a protective casing around the seeds of cotton plants of the genus gossypium. Although there are concerns that cotton can be intensive to farm, it is sustainable to grow, naturally soft, breathable and hypoallergenic making it ultimately comfortable to wear and an ideal alternative for vegans and those not wishing to wear animal fibres. As a natural plant fibre, cotton is also completely biodegradable meaning that harmful micro fibres, such as you might get with man made fibres...
