Introducing Baa Baa Blends

Baa Baa Blends is the brand new yarn for Spring/Summer 2018 from Baa Baa Brighouse. It is a 100% British Wensleydale 4 Ply yarn that is hand dyed to a very subtle gradient. Each 100g skein is wound into a tight ball before being dipped in a dye bath, allowing the dye to be absorbed by the outer strands of yarn whilst the inner strands of the ball retain their natural colour. The result gives a beautiful subtle gradient and slight variegated effect to the middle of the skein before returning to the lustrous natural tones of undyed Wensleydale. Baa Baa Blends is available in six gorgeous shades that take their inspiration from summer puddings – Lemon Meringue, Peach Melba, Strawberry Tart, Gooseberry Fool, Blueberry Pie and Blackcurrant Sorbet. With a length of approximately 350m, our latest yarn is perfect for shawls, scarfs, wraps...

Nominate Baa Baa Brighouse

The British Knitting & Crochet Awards are run every year by Let's Knit and Let's Get Crafting magazines, and are widely recognised as the biggest and most important awards in the yarn industry. There are three stages to these awards and nominations are now open for stage one with a total of 25 categories. We would love it if you could consider sparing a few minutes of your time to nominate Baa Baa Brighouse in the best online and best independent yarn categories...or any other category you think we may fit into! Suggestions are compiled into a shortlist which is then put to the vote and the overall winners are announced at the end of September. If you take part, you will automatically be entered into a draw to win one of three fabulous woolly prizes. One lucky winner will receive a massive bundle of yarn and accessories worth £300...

Why Vegan Yarn?

Out to lunch with some fellow knitting friends recently, the conversation turned to veganism and how it appears to be rapidly on the rise. One of our group, another small woolly business owner, mentioned that she was planning to expand her product range to include vegan friendly products. I must admit, from a personal perspective, as a non-vegan, I have always preferred to knit with animal fibres, in particular wool and wool rich yarns. Baa Baa Brighouse is a member of the Campaign for Wool and since it was conceived, the business has steered clear from the majority of other fibres. Obviously, it can be a contentious issue with strong feelings, ethical arguments and environmental concerns on both sides of the debate. My point of view has been that sheep, whether bred for meat or for their fleece, need to be sheared to promote good health...

Pantone Colour of the Year

The colour experts at the Pantone Colour Institute have announced that their Colour of the Year for 2018 is ultra violet. Their Colour of the Year is described as "one moment in time that provides strategic direction for the world of trend and design". It represents a culmination of the company's work forecasting trends and developing colour palettes and purple is big news for the coming 12 months. Knowing that our customers are always keen to keep up with changing fashions in the knitting and crochet world, we've browsed our website to come up with the perfect purples for the coming season. Debbie Bliss Falkland Aran yarn is available in a luxurious jewel toned purple. Made with extra fine Falkland Merino wool that is ecologically and organically produced, this is a perfect option for cosy family knits and classic stitch...

New Year, New Brands

Some of you will be aware of the sad news that Designer Yarns, distributor of Louisa Harding Yarns, Debbie Bliss, Brittany needles and crochet hooks and others went into administration shortly before Christmas with the loss of 12 jobs. Unfortunately, this will affect the future supply of these brands to our own customers. We understand that Knitting Fever, an American based company will take over the distribution of the Louisa Harding range direct to the UK. However, after careful consideration, we have taken the difficult decision to no longer stock Louisa Harding yarns and patterns once our current stock is depleted. Prior to the collapse of Designer Yarns, based in Keighley, West Yorkshire, we had found several colourways difficult to restock so our remaining ranges of Amitola, Amitola Grande, Cassia and Cassia Prints will continue to be...

Yan Tan Tethera Yarn Club: A Year In Review

It has been an exciting, challenging but most importantly, rewarding journey since founding the Yan Tan Tethera Yarn Club back in 2014. We have had the privilege of working alongside some of the most notable and talented indie dyers that Yorkshire has to offer and the results have been amazing. Here, we take a look back at 2017 and the inspiration pictures that ultimately produced the wonderful array of yarns that we were able to offer to our subscribers. If you have taken part in the Yan Tan Tethera Yarn Club previously, you will be aware that each month we choose a different Yorkshire based indie dyer to work with. We provide the dyer with an inspiration photograph taken by the wonderful Shutterspot Photography of the Yorkshire landscape, wildlife or architecture and from that the dyer produces a unique and exclusive...

Poppy Knitters – We Need You!

On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month we will remember them. This year we mark the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day and Baa Baa Brighouse has teamed up with the Brighouse Incredible Yarnbombers to decorate the town with knitted and crocheted poppies. Brighouse Business Initiative are busy organising a community event for the anniversary but have challenged us to poppy bomb Brighouse. We will need as many as possible along with some six inch squares in shades of green. Baa Baa Brighouse is acting as a collection point for finished donations. They can be dropped off at or posted to Baa Baa Brighouse, 11 Church Street, Rastrick, Brighouse, West Yorkshire, HD6 3NF or brought along to one of our Knit and Natter sessions at Rastrick Library or LoveBread in Brighouse. Last year, the Brighouse Incredible...

Birthstone Yarn Boxes

New for 2018, Baa Baa Brighouse is introducing monthly birthstone themed yarn boxes featuring limited edition Baa Baa Brew colourways inspired by birthstones. Each contains 200g of Baa Baa Brew hand dyed DK British Bluefaced Leicester yarn inspired by that month’s theme. Boxes will also contain a host of other goodies based around that month’s birthstone. In January, our Garnet Birthstone Box included two 100g skeins of sumptuously soft Baa Baa Brew in an exclusive colourway, a red bead stitch marker, a handmade strawberry and champagne bath bomb, handmade strawberry soap, a bag of red buttons and a pewter January birthstone fairy figure.
