Join the Ganny Lock KAL

As keen supporters of The Campaign for Wool, Baa Baa Brighouse is launching the Ganny Lock Knit-A-Long (KAL) to celebrate UK Wool Week 2016 and encourage knitters everywhere to support the British wool industry. Ganny Lock is a warm and cosy wraparound shawl and is the first pattern to be designed in-house solely using Baa Baa Brew, our 100% British Bluefaced Leicester DK yarn which is reared and sheared in the UK, then spun in Yorkshire and hand dyed here at Baa Baa Brighouse HQ using traditional methods. It is available in eight colours, including two new shades for the Autumn/Winter 2016 season which were officially launched at Yarndale 2016. All of the shades, known collectively as 'The Brighouse Collection', are named after areas of Brighouse, the town in which the yarn was dyed. They are Thornhills, Woodhouse, Brookfoot, Rastrick,...

Yarndale 2016

Baa Baa Brighouse has just exhibited at the fourth annual Yarndale, held in Skipton, North Yorkshire and what an amazing festival of woolly loveliness it was! The event, held at the Auction Mart, a short distance from the town centre, is the second Yarndale we've had a stand at and the third time we've visited. Having appeared at a number of shows, I have to say Yarndale is by far and away one of the biggest with 180 exhibitors and over 8,000 visitors throughout the weekend. It is meticulously organised with the team of volunteers that help pull the show together doing an absolutely outstanding job - managing the event can be no mean feat as anyone who visited on Saturday will tell you. The crowds came in their droves which is wonderful to see but also means that as exhibitors, we are kept crazily busy all day, so if I didn't get a...

Leeds Wool Festival 2016

World Wide Knit in Public Day 2016

Two years ago, we launched Baa Baa Brighouse on World Wide Knit in Public Day with the setting up of a brand new Knit and Natter Group at Rastrick Library, just yards from where our headquarters are. This year, we're joining in the celebration again by hosting another Knit and Natter event. This time, weather permitting, we hope to spill out in to the library gardens so if it looks like the sun might shine, it may be a good idea to bring along a picnic blanket or folding chair. We'll be stringing up the bunting and cranking up the gramophone for some vintage style tunes to set the mood. We will provide refreshments including tea, coffee, juice, cakes and biscuits and there will also be woolly related crafts to keep little ones occupied. Simply bring along your current work in progress or if you have never knitted before, come along...

Yarn Shop Day 2016

It's less that a week to go until knitters, crocheters, stitchers and sewers everywhere unite to celebrate Yarn Shop Day on April 30th, 2016. Presented by Let's Knit magazine and sponsored by the British Wool Board and The Campaign for Wool, the day was originally a celebration of traditional bricks and mortar yarn shops and provided a valuable opportunity to promote all that is great about British yarn. While Baa Baa Brighouse is an online store, we will be supporting two Yorkshire craft stores in their attempts to celebrate Yarn Shop Day. The Yorkshire Makery in Slaithwaite, Huddersfield, will be stocking our very own hand dyed yarn, Baa Baa Brew, especially for the occasion. The full range will be available to squish, squash and purchase along with boxes of 25g Baa Baa Brew Mini Skein Boxes. Further north in the beautiful historic city of...

A Grand Day Out!

On a dull, grey October morning in Yorkshire, Baa Baa Brighouse, consisting of Gary and Elaine, waited for their day trippers to arrive - they were off on a grand day out to Farfield Mill in Sedbergh. It was the first Autumn Trip they had organised and the party was made up of a small group of ladies, some of whom they had met at past events, such as the British Wool Show in Harrogate last year, Armley Mills Wool Festival in Leeds, Crafternoon Tea at Holdsworth House Hotel on the outskirts of Halifax or at bi-monthly and monthly Knit and Natter sessions at Rastrick Library and more recently, at LoveBread in Brighouse. One or two faces were new. None of the group had been to Farfield Mill before, so were looking forward to learning about it's history and viewing the work of a whole host of crafters and artists in its retail galleries and...

Join Baa Baa Brighouse for a Brilliant Day Out!

As an online retailer, it's incredibly important to us here at Baa Baa Brighouse to get out and meet our customers face to face whenever the opportunity arises. That's why we love attending yarn festivals, craft fairs and knit and natter events, so that you can get to know the faces behind what you see on the Baa Baa Brighouse website or on our Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Google+ pages. This Autumn we've decided to create our own woolly event - we're inviting you to join us for a Baa Baa brilliant Autumn day out at Farfield Mill in Sedbergh. Sedbergh, nestled on the border of  the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Lake District, has seen its reputation for all things woolly grow in recent years. So much so, that it has become a veritable hub for textile artists and artisan crafters alike. Featured on BBC Countryfile and...
